Bible Thoughts, Ex 32: Diversion, Golden Calf etc.

Last night I was in bed with Imelda and our three kids. Chatting and laughing until almost 12 midnight! Wonderful time.

Among other things, we talked about the danger of "diversion" in spiritual and family life. "Diversion?" That's the tendency to be swayed away from God and His purposes to worship an idol or substitute.

A serious "diversion" in the Bible was the golden calf idol. Moses had it as a problem way, way back. People experienced God and His goodness. Then after a while, they became corrupt and unfaithful to Him.

"Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt." (Exodus 32: 7, 8)

Such unfaithfulness and corruption still happen today. People's hearts are the same. There's always a need for us to be renewed and empowered by God's Spirit to remain faithful to Him.
