Those Things That Hurt, Instruct

Let me ask you something. Are you here to be happy or comfortable all the time? In this life filled with vicissitudes, uncertainties, and hard lessons, what are you here for? I believe that everything that happens to you and I are designed to teach us what we need to know in our journey of life. That includes suffering. As Benjamin Franklin said, "Those things that hurt, instruct." Soren Kierkegaard once wrote: "A man may perform astonishing feats and comprehend a vast amount of knowledge, and yet have no understanding of himself. But suffering directs a man to look within. If it succeeds, then there within him, is the beginning of his learning" .... Our call and meaning in this life is to learn, which is to say, to "evolve," to progress. How? By making choices. And, hopefully we opt to choose growth all the time.
