Birds Eat, Flowers Wear Clothes ... But They Don't Have High Blood, Ulcers, or Anxiety Attacks!

Are you obsessed with anxiety or worry about having enough to eat? What clothes to wear? If you're going to have money for housing, a car, kids' schooling, or retirement? Most people are burdened with care in a materialistic world. The underlying cause of our anxiety or worry is identified in Jesus' words, "O you of little faith" (Matthew 6: 30). The Lord recognizes a real problem. But He teaches that all worrying is unnecessary. Our heavenly Father will take care of our needs. Birds eat, flowers "wear clothes," but they don't have high blood, ulcers, or anxiety attacks! Why? God takes care of them. This does not mean we don't work or become passive recipients. Jesus' point is that we should not fret, worry, or be anxious about our needs. So, when we worry or become burdened down with care, what's really happening is we've stopped trusting God to take care of our needs... even though He promised He would. We're trusting in our selves instead of trusting in Him. Here's Jesus' therapy for anxiety and worry: "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). Instead of worrying about food, clothing, competing and controlling the future, Jesus is telling us to concentrate on what is most important.
