The Courage of Humor

We are all imperfect. We make mistakes. It's a natural outcome of our limited human condition, awareness, and capacity. To stop walking on eggs, we need to accept our humanness. When we do, we can smile. We begin to laugh at events, others, and our selves. As Walter O'Connell wrote, "Humor results from a resolution of human paradoxes." Human paradox has extremes. So when we reunite these extremes, we gain perspective, hope, and energy. We learn to laugh at our overinflated egos and flaws. That's a product of humor. Yes, we can know when we're growing in our personal recovery when we lighten up!
