The Runner's High

The feeling is familiar. While I was in younger years, I did lots of road running, especially when preparing for a sporting event. In my running, I experienced times of getting "high." Strangely, my "runner's high" happened at a time when I become too out of breath and tired to continue ... then suddenly I'd find strength to press on at top performance. Scientists and doctors describe it as the "second wind." I like that phrase. It can be a metaphor for therapy and recovery, or life in general. Every one of us can continue on with renewed energy even past the point we think we're done. Runner's high. Second Wind. Whatever, it's never too late to pursue one's best.
