Should I focus on my present rather than my past to heal?

Behavior Therapy, propounded by Dr. BF Skinner et al, tends to focus on current symptoms and presenting problems, with no or less attention paid to the past. In a way, that can be helpful to avoid endless exploring or dwelling on past issues.

Here is where I disagree with it. A more wholistic, balanced approach deals more adequately with the past. This is especially true when there are unresolved developmental issues and painful memories.

Real healing takes place when enough attention is given first to unconscious processes, including the darker fallen side of human nature (Romans 3:23, Jeremiah 17:9). Feel, process - then let go.
