Are you an "enabler?"

For every stuck addict or character-disordered, there is an "enabler."

A friend covers up for a friend's absences by hiding the truth from the boss.

A wife supports her alcoholic and sexually addicted husband by making excuses for him.

A mother loans money and bails her son out of facing the pain of the legal consequences of his choices.

A doctor prescribes drugs to a patient to treat symptoms rather than cure the roots of his or her disease.

Enabling permits those stuck with addiction or unhealthy life patterns to continue by shielding them from the painful consequences of their behavior and thereby preventing significant recovery.

If you are an enabler, you make admission of truth or the problem impossible for one stuck with an addiction or disorder. You keep the stuckee remain stuck!
