Emptying Your Cup

In my life, I learned much from kids and "ordinary people." They always have greater information for me than the "professionals."

Maybe that feeling is related to the old Zen story.

A professor went to see a Zen master to get wisdom. The old master asked a student to bring two cups and some tea. He put one cup in front of the professor and he began to pour the tea. The cup filled and the master continued to pour.

The professor got irritated and said to the master, "Stop pouring? Can't you see the cup is full, running all over the table?"  The old Zen master smiled and said, "And so it it is with you. Only by emptying ourselves is there room for more to come in."

It's a significant exploration for those who seek healing and wholeness. How much easier it would have been if we learn the lesson of emptying our cup.
