Focus on the Root

Dr. M.Scott Peck, a psychiatrist, in his bestselling book “The Road Less Traveled,” writes,

“The symptoms and the illness are not the same thing. The illness exists before the symptoms. Rather than being the illness, the symptoms are the beginning of its cures. The fact that they are unwanted makes them all the more a phenomenon of grace - a gift of God, a message from the unconscious, if you will, to initiate self examination and repair.”

The fact is, psychopathological conditions like anxiety, depression, or addiction, are not the illness yet.

They’re merely symptoms.

Something lies underneath the person which drives or fuels the existence of those symptoms.

“Brain drugs don’t cure to the core,” I told a client a few days ago. “They only address the superficial symptoms and don’t go to the root.”

No physiological brain drugs can take you to your deeper, non-physical psychological or spiritual roots, where lies permanent cure.

Focus on the root, not on the fruit, to truly heal and be whole.
